Welcome to GroundZero EV: Your Electric Vehicle Journey Starts Here. As a new Blazer EV owner, I’m always keeping an eye on updates from GM, and today, there’s news that addresses a specific concern some owners have reported.
A new service bulletin, #25-NA-217, has been released to help technicians identify and respond to an issue with the vehicle’s Head-Up Display (HUD).
The Problem: A “Wavy” Head-Up Display
The bulletin describes a condition where the Head-Up Display image appears distorted. Instead of looking flat and even, the image can appear “concave” or “bowed,” with the characters on the left and right sides of the display looking slightly higher than the middle characters.
While this doesn’t affect the vehicle’s safety or function, it’s definitely an annoying visual quirk that can distract from the driving experience.
The Cause: It’s a Software Glitch
The good news is that the cause of this issue is not a faulty part. According to GM, the distortion is due to a “software anomaly.”
This is a crucial detail for us as owners. It means that the HUD itself is not broken and does not need to be replaced. Instead, the display is simply not rendering the image correctly because of a bug in the car’s software.
The Fix: An Over-the-Air Update Is on the Way
Because this is a software-related issue, the correction is not a repair that a technician can perform by replacing a part. The bulletin instructs dealers to not replace the HUD or any other parts.
Instead, the fix will come from GM engineering in a future software update. This is a great example of how modern EVs can be improved over time with over-the-air updates, much like your smartphone or computer.
What You Should Do If Your Blazer EV Has This Issue
If you have a 2024 Blazer EV and have noticed a distorted or concave image on your Head-Up Display, here’s what you need to know:
- Don’t worry: This is a known issue, and you can rest assured that GM is aware of the problem and is working on a solution.
- No immediate action is required: You do not need to take your car in for service for this specific condition.
- Stay informed: Keep an eye out for an official software update from GM that will correct this issue, which will likely be delivered automatically to your vehicle.
This service bulletin is a positive sign that GM is actively listening to owner feedback and is committed to refining the software on their Ultium platform vehicles.
